If you've visited us today, you probably noticed the address bar changed. We live at surfer.ai now. Every old surferseo.com link still works and quietly sends you to the same page here, so nothing breaks.
I wanted to write a few words on why we did it.
We stopped being "just an SEO tool" a while ago
When we started Surfer in 2017, the job was clear: help people write content that ranks on Google. surferseo.com fit that job perfectly.
Then the way people search changed. Today a lot of buying decisions start with a question to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Perplexity. The answer they get is built from everything the internet says about a brand: your blog, someone's review, a comparison page, a Reddit thread you never saw. You can rank #1 on Google and still not show up in that answer.
So most of what we've built over the last year is about that: seeing what AI says about your brand, understanding why, and fixing it. Classic Google search still matters a lot and we're not leaving it. But calling ourselves an SEO tool started to feel like describing a phone as "a device for calls".
The domain kept putting us in the same drawer as legacy SEO tools, the ones built around keyword lists and rank tracking. We don't want to be in that drawer. surfer.ai says what we actually do now, to you, to Google, and to the AI models that will explain us to other people.
The limits nobody used (until MCP)
Here's a slightly funny thing. For years our plans came with pretty generous limits, and almost nobody hit them. Not because people didn't like Surfer. There just weren't enough hours in the day to click through everything the plan allowed.
Then we shipped our MCP server, which lets you plug Surfer into the AI assistant you already use. Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, really anything that supports remote MCP servers. Suddenly you could ask your assistant to pull Surfer data, audit a page, find what's missing and draft the fix, all in one chat.
About 20% of our users already work this way, and they regularly use their full limits. For the first time, the bottleneck isn't the team's time. That was the moment it clicked for me: our tech plus models like Claude or Codex can do a lot more for a business than either one alone.
It's also why we're putting so much into MCP. You shouldn't have to leave the place you work to use Surfer. We want to be the best AI SEO plugin you connect to your assistant.
We rebuilt our own website the same way
Our team has been AI-native for a long time. Our website wasn't. Every time someone wanted to change a page, it felt like a trip back in time, and honestly, everyone was a bit annoyed by how outdated publishing a simple change had become.
On top of that, years on Webflow left us with thousands of redirects and a pile of patches and workarounds for things the platform didn't support natively. So alongside the new domain, we rebuilt the whole website and used the move to clean all of that up.
The old site lived in Webflow. The new one is built on Astro and runs on Cloudflare. That sounds like a developer detail, but it changed how we work day to day. The site is now just code in a repository, which means our marketing team can change a page by describing it to Claude. Claude makes the edit, someone on the team reviews it, and it goes live on its own. Today, for example, I added a link to our footer that way, in a few minutes, without filing a ticket or having to use Webflow. The same afternoon we redrew 75 charts across the blog to match our style, in about 40 minutes. That used to take a week.
We started on 15th October and moved everything in about one week. And the site got a lot faster on the way. Across 232 pages tested on mobile, the median Lighthouse performance score went from 72 to 98, and the main content now shows up about 2.5x faster (2.0 s instead of 4.8 s). Faster pages are nicer for you, and they help both Google and AI crawlers read us.
A few other things worth knowing
We now help with the work, too. Not every team has the time or the know-how to act on what the data shows. So we also offer implementation services. We get paid for the product and the work done, not for hours. If that sounds useful, talk to our sales team.
We're part of Positive. That's why you'll see "Positive Surfer" more often. Positive is a group of six products for marketing, content and sales teams: User.com, Signitic, Surfer, Iconosquare, noCRM and Ubic. Your visibility in AI answers comes from much more than your own website, so over time we want these products to work together inside the same AI assistant.
Nothing changes for you today. Your account, plan, data, integrations and MCP connection work exactly as before. The app itself will move to surfer.ai too, no later than mid-November.
That's it
New address, same people, same obsession with helping you get found. If you haven't tried Surfer inside your AI assistant yet, this is a good place to start. And if you have thoughts on the change, I'd genuinely like to hear them.
